Tennis coach sexually humiliated teen girl for losing matches, says prosecutor

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A former tennis pro who taught Sacramento-area kids how to play the sport slowly groomed one of his pupils to the point of eventually taking her virginity in a motel room, prosecutors revealed at a hearing last month.

He would also subject the 14-year-old girl to sexual humiliation by ejaculating on her face when she performed poorly at matches.

The remarkably high amount of bail set for Kasparas Zemaitelis – one dollar under $10 Million – was dropped for a no-bail hold by Judge Kenneth Brody after prosecutors revealed new details on the allegations against the one-time tennis ace.

The court heard a statement from the victim herself, which was read out by Deputy District Attorney Denise Halstead because she didn’t want to be present in front of Zemaitelis.

“As my tennis coach, he took advantage of his authoritative position over me by molesting me and forcing me to do sexual things, which I was in no way ready nor mature enough for,” the victim said. “Kasparas Zemaitelis has stolen my innocence and tarnished a large part of my childhood, which has and will continue to affect me greatly.”

Zemaitelis, 26, has been charged with 10 counts of child molestation. If convicted of the felonies, he can face up to 3, 6, or 8 years in prison for each count.

According to Halstead, Zemaitelis began grooming the teen girl in August of 2021 by showing her “explicit content” on Instagram including sex jokes, videos of animals having sex, and nude photos of other girls.

The conduct eventually grew into sex acts in a motel room. Zemaitelis began by first asking the girl to look at her breasts, then touch her breasts, followed by her touching his penis through his clothes – then under his clothes.

“His slow progression got to a point, through the progress of this relationship, where he did sexual humiliation for poor performance on tennis matches,” Halstead explained.

Zemaitelis allegedly ordered the girl to perform oral sex on him in order to “teach her like you learn in school.” As a punishment for a bad tennis match, he would ejaculate on her face.

“She was a virgin when he took her virginity with these sexual acts that he did,” Halstead revealed.

Judge Brody’s decision on bail wasn’t made until being able to hear from the other side – Zemaitelis’ attorney – who seemed to imply that the victim’s parents were to blame for the former tennis pro’s conduct.

“It appears that the parents are arguably complicit in this case, because they would rent a motel room for themselves, and for their daughter and Mr. Zemaitelis,” Reid Kingsbury said. “And there was that type of encouragement going on subliminally, in conjunction with the alleged offenses in this case.”
