Sex offender arrested again for child porn

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A local man who pled guilty to possessing a sprawling collection of child pornography in 2009 has again been arrested for possessing explicit imagery.

Federal prosecutors yesterday unsealed one child pornography charge against John Kalani Hatchie of Curtis Park, who can face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Prosecutors also seek to seize a MicroSD card he allegedly used to store the content.

Hatchie admitted, in a separate federal case in 2009, to purchasing access to two Australian child porn websites for around $100 each. When investigators raided his house several days later, they discovered a briefcase filled with a collage of nude children.

“I am busted!” Hatchie exclaimed as the briefcase was opened.

Analysis of his computer revealed over 1,000 images and 100 videos depicting infants being raped by adults. Around 217 of those images and three videos were identified by NCMEC as real children forced to perform sex acts in 39 different “series” filmed across foreign countries and other states.

The charge unsealed on Friday appears to stem from a recently filed violation of his supervised release in the prior case. Authorities say they were tipped off by the Queensland Police Service in Australia that someone using the name “Kidfinders” shared several images and videos of child sexual abuse to a law enforcement source of information.

The finding was forwarded to the Department of Homeland Security for further investigation, and it was revealed that the images were pre-pubescent girls, partially or fully nude, with their genitals exposed. Other images showed a grown man raping several children, one who investigators estimated to be as young as one.

The “Kidfinders” username was allegedly linked to an email account tied to homes owned by Hatchie in Dublin and Woodland, where police received a google CyberTip on Hatchie in October of 2019 regarding one file of “child exploitation material” uploaded to his account.

Although Hatchie traveled to his homes in Dublin and Woodland, where his ex-wife lives, officials say he currently lives at the Pete’s Place boarding house for adult males in Sacramento.
